by U.S. Paralympics Swimming
ORLANDO, FLORIDA – After three exhilarating days of competition, the 2024 U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships presented by Toyota came to a close on Sunday evening. The event capped off an incredible 2024 season that included a historic performance by Team USA at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
It was a perfect streak for Koehn Boyd (Ramsey, Minnesota) who took home the meet’s top honors, Swimmer of the Meet, with the most overall points totaling 5,691. Boyd added a gold in the men’s 200-meter IM SM5-14 to come away with six national titles in Orlando. Not far behind was Katie Kubiak (Mequon, Wisconsin) who also had an impeccable run topping the podium in five events. Kubiak smashed two more American records including a time of 1:17.73 in the women’s 100m freestyle S4 and 2:44.81 in the women’s 200m freestyle S4.
Team USA’s Paris athletes continued to shine in the pool with two-time Paralympian Lawrence Sapp (Waldorf, Maryland) adding two more first-place finishes on the third day. Paralympians Olivia Chambers (Little Rock, Arkansas) and Grace Nufher (Indianapolis, Indiana) also picked up top results in the women’s 200m IM SM5-14 to add a gold and silver their collection respectively.
World Para Swimming and U.S. Paralympics Swimming competition for the 2025 season resumes for the first world series of next year beginning on Feb. 14 in Australia. U.S. swimmers will have the opportunity to participate in several international and domestic events before the season culminates at the Singapore 2025 World Para Swimming Championships set to take place from Sept. 21-27, 2025.
All races are mixed class, and results based on the World Para Swimming points system to create an equitable field of play among the different classes. For more information, head to the U.S. Paralympics Swimming website and Facebook page.
